Sunday School and PWRDF

Christ Church Cathedral Sunday School had a special visit a couple of weeks ago from Angela Andrews, the Diocese of Montreal’s representative for the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF). Angela was invited to spend the morning with the children in Sunday School to tell us about the work of PWRDF and to receive a cheque for $1000.
Over $600 of this total had been raised by the children and congregation of the cathedral by collecting pennies over last summer. The additional $400 was a contribution from the Diocese, also collected in pennies over the last few months. The money will go towards a project which was started in our diocese as a response to the Haiti earthquake of 2010. The project, called Appeti pou Appran, or Appetite for Learning, provides hot school lunches for elementary school children in Haiti. To put this amount of pennies into context, PWRDF tell us it costs $50 to feed one child for a whole year, so this appeal raised enough to feed 20 children a healthy hot meal every day at school for a whole year. And that’s really going to make a difference to these children’s education and their chances in life.
